Regional Lydian pottery at Daskyleion: testing stylistic classification by chemical analysis

Abstract This paper presents the results of an interdisciplinary study Lydian pottery excavated at Daskyleion between 1988 and 2002. Before becoming satrapal centre Hellespontine Phrygia in Achaemenid period, to judge by historical archaeological evidence, had close interrelations with kingdom. Previous stylistic macroscopic fabric studies from have shown that as well items produced capital Sardis, ceramics may also been imported other production centres region Greater Lydia (Gürtekin-Demir 2002). New chemical analysis neutron activation (NAA) 31 samples presented here confirms this suggestion. We determined four provenance groups pottery, each them defined element pattern which is distinct made Sardis.
